Quality of Golf: Scottsdale is home to 11 of the Top 25 golf courses in Arizona as determined by the Golf Digest 2007-08 state-by-state rankings. The City and its neighbors also are home to six courses on Golf Magazine's 2008 Top 100 You Can Play, more than any other single destination on the list. Plus, Scottsdale boasts 16 of the Top 30 You Can Play in the state of Arizona, according to Golf Magazine. As a result, Scottsdale accounts for a larger percentage of the state's top ranked courses than any other municipality in the nation.

 

Golf's Economic Impact: According to the Golf Industry Association, Arizona's golf industry contributes well over $3.4 billion to the state's economy annually and provides nearly 20,000 jobs to local residents.

 

Golf Resorts: Five of Golf Digest's 75 Best Golf Resorts in North America are in Scottsdale

 

Golf Tourists: Tourists account for an estimated 40 percent of all golf rounds played in Scottsdale annually

Golf Lifestyle: Scottsdale is the top ranked "Golf-Home" market in the western United States according to findings in the June 2006 issue of Golf Digest. These rankings are based upon the number and quality of available golf courses, non-golf amenities, cost of living and other factors.

 

Great Golf Instruction: Three of America's 50 Greatest Teachers, according to Golf Digest, are in Scottsdale. (No. 9, Stan Utley; No. 27, Peter Kostis; and No. 31, Mike LaBauve)

 

Golf and Water: Golf accounts for just 4.2 percent of the Arizona's annual water consumption

 

Waste Management Phoenix Open: Held at TPC of Scottsdale, the Waste Management Phoenix Open (formerly FBR Open) is the best attended golf tournament in the world, attracting an estimated 500,000 spectators during tournament week. Recent studies placed the tournament's economic impact on Scottsdale and the surrounding area at $180.4 million per year. In 2008, the tournament raised more than $8.6 million for charities - the most of any PGA Tour event.

Approximately 10,000 passengers a year travel through the airport, making Scottsdale one of the busiest single-runway airports in the country.
