Dia de los Muertos Celebration at the Desert Botanical Garden

Desert Botanical Garden will once again celebrate Dia de los Muertos with ongoing festivities, classes and exhibits. Dia de los Muertos is a colorful Mexican and Native tradition that honors and celebrates departed loved ones in a festival setting. Enjoy entertainment that will bring the history of this holiday to life via song, dance and storytelling. Experience the Desert Botanical Garden’s interactive altar, a display honoring Día de los Muertos, the Garden’s past and present, and the act of gardening. Devour delicious Mexican food & pastries, available for purchase, and shop for beautiful Mexican art in the Garden’s Mercado. The Garden’s Dia de los Muertos Celebration takes place Saturday, October 29 and Sunday, October 30, 2011, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
New this year! The Garden will present “Master of Oaxaca,” a program that will showcase expert wood carving artists from Oaxaca. This artist in residence program will allow Garden guests the opportunity to observe talented artists demonstrating their artwork and to learn through hands-on workshops. The Master of Oaxaca is sponsored by CALA Alliance Festival. As part of CALA Alliance Festival’s partnership, the Garden will host a Target Free Day on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Admission to he Garden is free and parking is limited.

COST: Garden Admission Rates: $15.00 for adults, $13.50 for seniors, $7.50 for students (13-18 years-of-age and college with proper ID), $5.00 for children 3-12 years-of-age. Children under 3 years-of-age and Garden members are admitted free.
