Last November the Scottsdale Polo Championships drew the biggest crowd in the country with some 12,442 fans enjoying the four-match showdown at the annual Polo Party. This year, with an expanded event schedule and an amped-up polo lineup including the sport’s top players and more vendors, more sponsors, and more horsepower, America’s most-attended polo event is expected to draw up to 15,000 polo fans and revelers to Omni Scottsdale Polo Field at WestWorld of Scottsdale. With the breathtaking backdrop of McDowell Mountains and beautiful white tents lining the field, the Polo Party will again be a weekend destination for both local residents and tourists, especially with some of the world’s top polo players on hand.
It all gets started on Saturday, October 25, when gates open at 11:00 a.m. The lineup features top professional female polo players in the world like Sunny Hale, Sarah Wiseman and Paola Martinez, and the top gay polo player in the world, Caroline Anier, on the Women’s World All-Star Team vs. the event’s reigning champions, the Clogau Wales Polo Team, which plays with Princes Charles, William and Harry. The Arizona Polo Club will also take on the Gay Polo League, the nation’s only organized gay sports league.
An All-Star match between the weekend’s top players will take place alongside the USPA Governor’s Cup on Sunday, commemorating the United States Polo Association’s decision to hold its prestigious Annual Meeting in conjunction with this year’s event.
Also on tap for Saturday, October 25th, Larsen Gallery, a national leader in the secondary art market for more than 20 years and the largest contemporary fine art gallery in Scottsdale will host the LIVE 2014 Larsen Art Auction inside the Omni Scottsdale Wine and Spa Lounge.
And that’s not all! The Scottsdale Sizzlin’ Showdown, a super-regional event for the World Food Championships, will feature up to 60 competitors facing-off in one of three culinary competitions. Similar to the championship in Las Vegas, contestants will be forced to compete against nature, a clock and a field of talented cooks from all walks of life. Competitors will be cooking live-fire against the clock and the elements to create their best entry and earn their way to Vegas. At stake is up to a $1,000 in cash per category and free entry into the World Food Championships.
Let us help you find the perfect place to make your visit for the Polo Championships the perfect getaway! From posh to playful, historic to contemporary and urban to out-of-the-way, Scottsdale’s hotels and resorts welcome you with accommodations that are as individual as you are.
