Visitors will be invited to participate in activities such as archery, spear throwing using atlatls, community painting, beading, petroglyph making, corn grinding, and gourd painting. Tony Duncan, five-time world hoop dancing champion will be teaching visitors of all ages how to hoop dance while Violet Duncan, former Miss Indian World and author, will be doing storytelling.
Set amongst the historic beauty of the Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park, this Indian Market offers a unique experience. Guests will shop over 100 booths of authentic American Indian fine art and collectibles along an interpretive trail, taking them by the ancient platform mound, ballcourt, and replica Hohokam dwellings. This 2-day event also offers activities for children and adults, including exceptional music, dance performances, food truck cuisine, and everyone’s favorite, Indian fry bread.
Miss Hopi 2017 Brennyn Tanner Masawytewa will be opening the market each morning with a welcoming statement and a performance from 10 to 10:20 a.m. Entertainment on the main stage this year will include Tony Duncan, Indigenous Enterprise, and many other performances of song and dance. The Ira H. Hayes American Legion Post 84 of Sacaton will post and retire colors at the Indian Market.
New this year, on Friday, December 8th, the public is invited to participate in a Welcoming & Market Kick-Off Event for the artists and their families to be held in the Community Room Building at Pueblo Grande from 6 to 8 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity for the public to meet their favorite artists and celebrate with them.
By hosting the Market at Pueblo Grande Museum the Auxiliary makes it all the more special by including Museum entrance with Indian Market admission tickets. During the Market, take the opportunity to tour the archaeological site and explore the ancient heart of Phoenix.
