Friday Night Films – The Magnificent Ambersons

Catch a classic film in a timeless space!  Weekly film viewings were an essential part of life at Taliesin West, and special rooms were created just for these screenings. Join us as we screen old-Hollywood favorites in our Cabaret Theater and discover why film was so essential to life at Taliesin West.

Our feature is The Magnificent Ambersons (1942) – See Ann Baxter, Wright’s Granddaughter and frequent Taliesin West visitor on the big screen. Orson Welles’ follow-up to “Citizen Kane” is this Best Picture nominee, an epic tale of the gradual decline of an old-monied Indianapolis family in the face of turn-of-the-century industrialization. The Ambersons’ magnificent lives are apparent as the film opens, as is their sense of propriety. Welles, who directed, produced, and adapted the screenplay from Booth Tarkington’s novel, also provides the narration.
