July 18 (dark skies), August 1 & September 5

The Canyon comes alive with the luminous glow of moon-kissed skies on Verde Canyon Railroad’s popular Saturday Starlight Tours on select Saturday evenings June through September.

The romance of the rails is enhanced as daylight gives way to twilight.  The late evening return to the depot reveals neighboring Jerome romantically twinkling on Cleopatra Hill. Monsoon season in late summer adds another layer of drama to the route, with seasonal waterfalls cascading into the canyon and rainbows filling the afternoon skies.

GRAPE TRAIN ESCAPES (wine-tasting)

Since 1990, train passengers have enjoyed raising a toast to the Arizona wilderness from well-appointed rail cars, harkening back to a time when relaxing travel by train was recognized as a hallmark of sophistication. Raising that toast has become a highly-requested event and throughout the years, this celebration of fine grape blends has spanned the planet – Italian, Chilean, Australian, African, Spanish, German and French wines having pleased the palates of thousands of awe-inspired train passengers, as well as local wines from closer to home, Arizona’s Verde Valley, a recently-renowned wine region.
