Scottsdale Dia De Los Muertos Fiestas

Dia de Los Muertos, or All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day as recognized in Mexico, celebrates our friends and family who have passed away, allowing their memories to live on through the festive celebrations of the living.

This year, Scottsdale’s Dia de Los Muertos 10-day celebration—the only U.S. Dia de los Muertos officially recognized by the Mexican government—will include various free and ticketed events from October 24 through November 2. Partake in Mexican culture's sights, sounds and flavors as you experience each interactive and enthralling event.

Gus Mejia Arte : La Ofrenda

October 24 - November 2:
Through a partnership with Lore Media and Arts & Scottsdale Dia de Los Muertos, Gus Mejia will be this year’s featured Artist through an elaborate in in-depth Photo Exhibition celebrating the release of his new book comprised of Catrina portraits and Dia de Los Muertos iconic imagery. Many of his works will be on display at the Old Adobe Mission intermixed with the annual Oaxacan-inspired Altares y Ofrendas Art Installations Experience.

Wander through the enchanting displays of Dia de Los Muertos and Mesoamerican-inspired art, brought to life by talented artists from across the Valley of the Sun, Southwest, Los Angeles, Mexico City, and Oaxaca de Juarez, Mexico.

Desfile De Muertos Procession

October 25 | 6 - 10 PM:
This procession features stunning altars, intricate face paintings, and traditional music and dance performances that bring the streets to life. Organized by Lore Media & Arts in collaboration with the City of Scottsdale, this event promises an immersive experience with world-class artists showcasing their talents through art installations and live performances.

Altares y Ofrendas

October 26 | 12 - 6 PM:
At this in-person event, you'll have the opportunity to witness breathtaking altares y ofrendas (altars and offerings) created by talented local artists. These beautiful displays are adorned with colorful marigolds, photographs, and favorite mementos, all meant to welcome and remember the spirits of the departed. As you stroll through the event, you'll be captivated by the lively music and traditional dances.

Catrina/Catrin Photoshoots

October 23 - 26
Be transformed into a Catrina/Catrin and have your image preserved through this once-in-a-lifetime experience with Gus Mejia! This photoshoot themed experience includes custom makeup and wardrobe, a variety of artistic backdrops, and 20 professionally shot and edited photos by Gus Mejia himself.

Danza de Muertos

October 26 | 8 PM:
Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet Company present a new and reimagined performance of dance, music, art, and ancestral ritual that will take audiences through the rich traditions of Dia de Los Muertos via intricately detailed movement, angles, and bold costumes that exude sheer joy, pride, and the splendor of Mexican folk dance.
