Sonoran Desert Plant Hike and Tasting Experience at Taliesin West

Leave the pathways behind and step into the living Sonoran Desert—quiet, close, and largely unseen by most visitors. On this 1.5-hour guided hike, led by desert expert Jeffrey Lazos Ferns, you’ll walk among saguaro, creosote, mesquite, and other desert icons, discovering the plants that shaped Frank Lloyd Wright’s vision of organic architecture—and why this landscape mattered so deeply to him.

Along the way, learn how Indigenous and regional communities have long relied on these plants for food, medicine, and daily life, and how those relationships continue to guide desert stewardship today.

The experience ends with something few ever get to do: a Sonoran Desert Tasting Experience—small bites crafted with desert ingredients, each paired with stories that connect flavor directly back to this extraordinary landscape.
