Beginning today, through Dec. 14, 2025, the Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West is debuting a new exhibition called A Fistful of Colors that features over 50 objects including paintings, sculptures, photography, textiles, and design pieces, highlighting the vast applications of color across different disciplines.
Curated by Western Spirit Curators – Dr. Andrew Nelson, Henry Terry, Robert Fleck, Natalie Reichert – A Fistful of Colors explores the complex nature of color perception through a wide range of objects spanning different eras, showcasing how artists, photographers, motion picture studio artists, and jewelers have engaged with color throughout history.
The exhibition features over 50 objects including paintings, sculptures, photography, textiles, and design pieces, highlighting the vast applications of color across different disciplines.
An understanding of color is aided by the use of a color wheel. The concepts of reflection and absorption of light, helps determine what we see. How does the eye perceive color? This exhibition incorporates an interactive color wheel on a stick which allows visitors to engage with color concepts in a hands-on way.
