Arizona Recognizes the Original Chopped Salad as a State Dish

May 8, 2025

Senator Lela Alston and Representative Sarah Liguori officially signed a state proclamation recognizing the Original Chopped Salad as a celebrated Arizona staple.

The proclamation honors Chef Bernie Kantak and The Gladly for their role in creating and sharing one of the state’s most iconic dishes, enjoyed by over 75,000 guests annually, and replicated (but never duplicated) on menus nationwide.

This recognition shines a light, not only on the power of a single dish to inspire a following, but also on the impact of small, independent restaurants on our culture, economy and sense of community.
