Artist Proposals Will Be Accepted Now – Jan. 26; Exhibit Will Be on Display March 1 – April 1
WHAT:
The newly completed luxury expansion at Scottsdale Fashion Square will be the stunning backdrop for an exciting return of The Cactus Collective with Scottsdale Arts. This high-profile art exhibit – featuring life-size saguaro cactus sculptures – celebrates Scottsdale Arts’ upcoming annual gala with the theme “Cosmic Crescendo.” A call for artists is open now through Friday, Jan. 26.
Artists, muralists, sculptures, designers, event design houses, students studying design, and SFS retailers are invited to create proposals for original works of art using the blank canvas of a full-size saguaro sculpture, for this special cactus exhibit during Spring Training season.
The Cactus Collective will be formally introduced during an exclusive VIP unveiling event at 4 p.m., Friday, March 1. During the event, the 10 final cactus sculpture submissions will be evaluated by qualified judges. “Best in Show” and “People’s Choice” awards will be announced, and winners will receive a ribbon to display with their artwork throughout the exhibition.
The 10 uniquely designed saguaro cactuses will be on display in the Scottsdale Fashion Square luxury wings from March 1 through April 1. Following the exhibition, each saguaro will be donated to Scottsdale Arts for a live auction during their annual fundraising gala.
WHY:
The Cactus Collective 2024 theme, Cosmic Crescendo, is inspired by the upcoming April 2024 full solar eclipse and Scottsdale Arts’ annual ARTrageous Gala, which will be a transcendent experience that captures the awe-inspiring essence of a rare solar event. Proceeds from a live auction featuring the Cactus Collective saguaros will support Scottsdale Arts, a nonprofit organization that creates diverse, inspired arts experiences and outreach opportunities for the Scottsdale community.

Interested designers should contact Kathy Vander Pluym at Kathy.VanderPluym@macerich.com or phone 480-945-5495 for an application, which requires a clear, concise 30-word description of the proposed concept (sketches are optional, but highly recommended). Proposals must be received by Friday, Jan. 26. Selected artists will be notified by Thursday, Feb. 1. Artists will pick up their blank canvas cactus forms between Friday, Feb. 2 and Sunday, Feb. 4, and completed cactus designs must be delivered to Scottsdale Fashion Square by Wednesday, Feb. 28.
