Discover the West’s history and rich cultural heritage at this highly rated TripAdvisor attraction just steps away from Old Town Scottsdale. Set in a stunning, 43,000-square-foot contemporary building, the museum features historic cowboy gear, Hopi pottery masterworks, Western fine art, historic posters starring silver screen cowboys and Indians—and much more.
Since its opening in January 2015, the museum has become a Smithsonian Affiliate and was named the nation’s “Best Western Museum” twice by the editors of True West magazine.
During Scottsdale’s Parada del Sol celebration in February, museum guests can experience living history as the Hashknife Pony Express, the oldest officially sanctioned Pony Express in the world, thunders into town at the end of its 200-mile journey to deliver U.S. Postal Service mail at the front steps of the museum.
The museum is a favorite downtown destination, thanks to its acclaimed exhibitions; proximity to popular restaurants, art galleries and retail shops; and easy access on foot, by car, or via the free downtown Scottsdale trolley.
In addition to Old Town, other nearby attractions include Scottsdale Fashion Square, Scottsdale Stadium (Cactus League Spring Training home of the San Francisco Giants baseball team), the Scottsdale Waterfront, Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts and the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art.
